Police to Arraign Transport Union Leader Over Alleged Killing of Dispatch Rider

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that it will on Friday arraign a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader, Shamsideen Adio, popularly known as Shameleon, for the alleged killing of a dispatch rider on Lagos Island.

Adio, 55, was arrested following a violent altercation on September 17, 2025, along Tapa Street, Lagos Island. Eyewitnesses said the clash began after the victim allegedly scratched Adio’s vehicle. The suspect and some of his associates reportedly attacked the rider, beating him with a helmet and their fists until he collapsed.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Confirming the development, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Bababseyi Oluseyi, disclosed that the suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, and will be formally charged in court on Friday, report by Vanguard detailed

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed outrage over the incident. The Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Adewale Adedeji, condemned the killing in strong terms, insisting that Adio and his accomplices must face justice.

“This is tragic. A dispatch rider who left home to earn a living for himself never returned because someone who thinks he is above the law decided to take his life,” Adedeji said. “The sanctity of human life has no alternative. Shamsideen’s case must be handled properly to serve as a deterrent.”
