2027: I’m Ready to rejoin APC but… – Kwankwaso

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says he is open to rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) — but only under clear and strong conditions.

The former Kano State governor made this known on Thursday when he received Hon. Buhari Bakwana, a former political aide to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, at his Miller Road residence in Kano. Bakwana, who recently left APC for NNPP, visited alongside some APC members from all 44 local government areas of the state to press Kwankwaso on the idea of returning to the ruling party.

Kwankwaso, who reminded his guests that he and six other governors were instrumental in forming APC back in 2013, said he would not allow history to repeat itself. According to him, the ruling party and even the PDP had, in the past, failed to keep agreements, leaving him and his allies shortchanged despite their sacrifices.

“We are ready to join APC under strong conditions and promises. We will not allow anyone to use us and later dump us,” Kwankwaso said.

He stressed that any discussion about a merger or return must come with concrete benefits for the NNPP, pointing out that his party already has candidates and full political structures across all states.

“If you are asking us to join APC, you must tell us what NNPP will gain. We have gubernatorial candidates and nationwide structures. What will you offer them if we join?” he asked.

The NNPP national leader also lamented that despite his role in founding APC, he and others got nothing from the Buhari administration.

“For eight years of APC under the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, we got nothing, not even appreciation,” Kwankwaso said. “In PDP, we asked for just a zonal party chairman, but they refused. We left peacefully, and today NNPP is strong with integrity.”

Kwankwaso made it clear that while NNPP is open to fresh negotiations, it would not accept to be sidelined or treated as a disposable ally.
