Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court turned tense on Wednesday as 45-year-old Adekunle Asulewon was arraigned for allegedly defrauding a local businesswoman of ₦1.7 million in Oko-Afo.
Police prosecutor, Insp. Edet Ekpo, told the court that on July 24, Asulewon allegedly approached trader Mulikat Kasim at Pako, Oko-Afo, claiming he could “boost her business.” Instead, he reportedly disappeared with the money and later stirred unrest in the community, causing a breach of peace, report by Citymood Badagry says
The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene Sections 168 and 314 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, and carry stiff penalties if proven.
Asulewon pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be self-employed. The matter was adjourned to September 4 for mention.
