A recent social media post has sparked conversations around the state of primary healthcare infrastructure in Lagos State, after a resident compared health centres in Badagry and Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The post, made by a Badagry resident identified as Dasi Samuel Sewanu, juxtaposed images of the newly commissioned Ikosi-Isheri Primary Health Centre—named after Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu—with that of the Pota Primary Health Centre in Badagry.
“To compare with POTA Primary Health center where SNAKE and reptiles chasing STAFFS out from hospital,” he wrote. “God bless Ikosi-Isheri LCDA. Mighty hands of God will touch BLG (Badagry Local Government).”
The health facility in Ikosi-Isheri, a modern, fully-equipped centre, was built under the administration of the Executive Chairman, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, and was recently commissioned by Senator Oluremi Tinubu herself. The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was also in attendance during the high-profile ceremony, lending further credence to the importance of the project.
Named in honour of the First Lady, the centre is being hailed as a model of grassroots healthcare delivery. Pictures shared online showed clean wards, medical equipment, and well-constructed infrastructure.
In sharp contrast, Dasi’s comment highlighted alleged poor conditions at the Pota Primary Health Centre in Badagry, with claims of reptiles disrupting operations and endangering the lives of both patients and staff.
The comment has stirred public concern and calls for urgent intervention in Badagry’s health sector. Some residents echoed the sentiment, urging the local government to prioritize healthcare and emulate the example set by Ikosi-Isheri.
While no official response has yet been issued by Badagry Local Government authorities regarding the viral comparison, the post has once again placed a spotlight on the wide gap in healthcare standards between some LCDAs in Lagos State.
As citizens continue to raise their voices, many hope that the "mighty hands of God," as Dasi put it, will indeed inspire swift and impactful action to improve primary healthcare delivery in underserved communities like Pota.
