The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs has commended the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, for what it described as remarkable developmental strides across the council, declaring the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the Mowo-Agemowo Road as a transformative project that will reshape the area.
The lawmakers gave the commendation on Monday during a physical inspection of projects executed by the council, following an earlier oversight exercise where the Ajose administration presented its one-year scorecard under the RESHAPE Agenda.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sanni Okanlawo, who led the inspection, said the projects reflected purposeful leadership and prudent management of public resources, expressing satisfaction with both the quality of execution and their impact on residents.
He described the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the first 600 metres of the Mowo-Agemowo Road, complete with drainage channels on both sides, as a well-conceived infrastructure project that would transform the corridor, improve transportation, tackle flooding and stimulate economic activities within the council.
"This is a well-thought-out project. From what we have seen, it is clear that this road will transform this entire corridor and improve the lives of the people. The quality of work is impressive and deserves commendation," Okanlawo said.
The committee also inspected the nearly completed Aradagun Community Town Hall, which has attained about 95 per cent completion, and applauded the quality of construction.
At the newly constructed Imeke Town Hall, the lawmakers praised the council for investing in modern community infrastructure that would strengthen social and communal activities.
The inspection team also visited the Ilado Primary Healthcare Centre, where members commended the administration for installing a solar power system to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services and for providing modern dental equipment that has facilitated the establishment of a dental unit within the facility.
During the inspection of the ongoing Morogbo Primary Healthcare Centre reconstruction, the committee advised the council chairman to maximise the expansive foundation by developing a multi-purpose healthcare facility capable of accommodating additional medical services in the future.
The lawmakers noted that the projects inspected justified the positive assessment earlier given during the council's performance presentation, where the Assembly applauded achievements recorded in healthcare, infrastructure, education, security, youth development and social welfare.
Responding, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon expressed appreciation to the Assembly committee for recognising the efforts of his administration and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more impactful projects.
"We are encouraged by the confidence reposed in our administration. These commendations will inspire us to do more. We remain committed to the RESHAPE Agenda and will continue to invest in projects that directly improve the lives of our people," the chairman said.
He assured the lawmakers that the committee's recommendations, including the establishment of an Information and Communication Technology Centre for youths and the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, would receive prompt attention.
The inspection formed part of the Lagos State House of Assembly's statutory oversight responsibility to assess projects executed by local governments and ensure value for public funds.
