The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had earlier fixed July 12 for the LG polls across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). In response, the APC is mobilizing its structures and stakeholders to ensure a smooth and credible primary process.
One of the highlights of today’s meeting was the strong recommendation by party leadership for the adoption of consensus candidates where possible. According to party officials, consensus arrangements will not only ease tensions within the party but also streamline the primaries, making them less contentious and more unifying.
"Where consensus is achievable, leaders at the local level are encouraged to explore that option in the spirit of party unity," party's stated during the session.
For the chairmanship primaries, the party confirmed that the exercise will take place at the APC state secretariat in Ikeja. In a bid to maintain order and ensure security, each aspirant is permitted to be accompanied by only one agent.
On the councillorship front, the party announced the establishment of 57 dedicated committees, one for each LGA and LCDA, to oversee the ward-level primaries. These committees will be tasked with ensuring transparency and credibility in the selection of councillorship candidates.
The stakeholders also deliberated on logistical preparedness, security, and fairness of the upcoming exercise. The general mood at the meeting reflected a commitment to unity, discipline, and grassroots engagement as the party gears up for a competitive election season.
With just days to the primaries, all eyes remain on the APC as it attempts to balance internal democracy with strategic consensus-building—a move that could shape the future of local governance in Lagos State.
