JUST IN: FG Approves Fund for Reconstruction of Ado-odo - Ikoga-Zebbe Road

The  Federal Government has approved funding for the reconstruction of the vital Ikoga-Zebbe – Ado-Odo Road. The project, which links Badagry in Lagos State to Ado-Odo in Ogun State, is part of a broader infrastructure push by the Tinubu administration.

The approval came during Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and forms part of a combined N37.045 billion commitment to upgrade both the Ikoga Road and the Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road in Ogun State.

Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, who made the announcement, described the road as a critical interstate corridor with immense socio-economic importance. According to him, the reconstruction will not only improve travel between Lagos and Ogun states but will also boost local commerce, ease the movement of goods, and foster regional integration in the Southwest.

"This is more than just road construction—it is a strategic investment in national development. Improved connectivity between Ikoga-Zebbe in Badagry and Ado-Odo in Ogun State will unlock new economic opportunities and significantly reduce travel time," Umahi stated.

The minister also noted that the federal government is leveraging private sector partnerships and international funding to accelerate road development across the country. Citing examples such as the MTN-backed Enugu-Onitsha Road and the China Exim Bank-funded 7th Axial Road, he emphasized that the Ikoga-Zebbe – Ado-Odo project aligns with this integrated approach to infrastructure delivery.

Meanwhile, progress continues on other key projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, where Section One is 70% complete and a 30km stretch is due for commissioning soon. These efforts, according to Umahi, reflect the administration’s commitment to delivering long-lasting and transformative infrastructure under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Also at the FEC meeting, other major approvals were granted for dam rehabilitation and irrigation initiatives across the country. These include the Tiga Dam in Kano, the Shalagua Gorge Dam, and the Kafinciri Irrigation Project—all aimed at improving food production, curbing flooding, and creating over 300,000 jobs for farming families.

The approval for the reconstruction of the Ikoga-Zebbe – Ado-Odo Road is seen as a strategic win for residents, traders, and commuters in Lagos and Ogun states, and a strong signal of the federal government’s resolve to modernize Nigeria’s transport networks for inclusive growth.
