In an inspiring display of integrity and youth empowerment, Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has fulfilled his pledge to reward three female First Class graduates from Lagos State University (LASU) with monthly stipends for one year.

The initiative, championed under the Bonu Leadership Initiative (B-Lead), had earlier announced a 12-month salary support package for the distinguished scholars—Akonthe Victoria Mauklo (First Class, Physiology), Mauton Esther Pedetin (First Class, Mathematics Education), and Hokon Dolapo Esenidonu, the overall Best Graduating Student from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

The beneficiaries have now received their first monthly salary, prompting heartfelt public appreciation from two of the graduates, who took to social media to celebrate the lawmaker’s consistency and commitment.

“Your generosity, sir, is not just an investment in our education—it’s a seed sown into our future,” wrote Victoria Akonthe in a message posted to Facebook. “Your unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and fostering educational excellence in Badagry is truly commendable.”

She further lauded Hon. Bonu’s longstanding efforts through initiatives like B-Lead and his promotion of arts and culture, adding that his impact continues to leave “an indelible mark on our community.”

Hokon Dolapo, in a deeply emotional note of thanks, praised Hon. Bonu’s character, describing him as a rare leader who stands out for keeping promises.

“In a time when many promises go unkept, Hon. Bonu Solomon stands out as a man of integrity and action,” she wrote. “This act of kindness has left a lasting mark on my heart. It is a reminder that leaders still exist who truly care about the youth.”

She added that the gesture has not only lifted a burden but reignited hope among young scholars striving for excellence.

Hon. Bonu had earlier celebrated the three young women during LASU’s convocation ceremony held on April 9, 2025, describing their achievements as a proud moment for Badagry and for girl-child education.

“It’s a remarkable coincidence—and a beautiful one—that all three are female. But more importantly, this reward is based purely on merit,” the lawmaker stated during the event. “These young women have worked hard and deserve to be celebrated. We must continue to encourage academic excellence.”

The B-Lead initiative, which focuses on mentorship, career placement, and youth empowerment, has over the years supported several top-performing students from Badagry. Past beneficiaries include Mauyon Cecilia, Kiki Kehinde, and Sonayon Sunday.

Hon. Bonu has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the three graduates receive full support during and beyond their NYSC year, including placement opportunities in reputable institutions across the public and private sectors.

Community leaders and residents have since praised the lawmaker’s initiative as a powerful step toward raising a new generation of educated, empowered youth in Badagry.

As the first salary payment reaches the beneficiaries, the story of Hon. Solomon Bonu stands out as a refreshing example of promise kept—proof that leadership anchored in vision, compassion, and accountability can still thrive in Nigerian politics.
