Governor Ademola Adeleke

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, Mercy Ayodele, a board member of the Obokun Local Government Education Authority and an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from her position.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Education Authority in Ibokun, Ayodele cited personal reasons for her decision to step down. The letter, obtained by Sunday Telegraph, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the current administration.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have served, and I am grateful for the experience gained,” she wrote, thanking both the board and the state government led by Governor Adeleke.

Although Ayodele did not elaborate on the exact reasons for her resignation, political observers suggest it may be linked to unfolding developments within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ayodele is widely known as a close ally of Hon. Oluwole Oke, the federal lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to Ayodele’s resignation, Hon. Oke took to social media to hint at broader dissatisfaction within the state’s ruling party. In a post on Facebook, he wrote:

“More Osun State PDP government appointees are set to resign. Some of our leaders have been summoned to the Government House.
We are building fresh, new leaders. Obokun-Oriade is for PBAT. Obokun-Oriade is for the APC. Obokun-Oriade is for us. The Ife-Ijesa zone is undergoing panel beating — it’s turning to gold.”

Ayodele’s exit is seen as a potential signal of shifting loyalties as the political landscape in Osun State begins to heat up in anticipation of the 2026 polls.
