A shocking development has emerged from the heart of Nigeria’s political crisis as suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was reportedly seen prostrating flat on the floor at the Abuja residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to beg for forgiveness and reconciliation.
According to an exclusive report by Premium Times, the dramatic encounter occurred on Friday, April 18, shortly after Fubara's meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London. The London meeting, sources say, was aimed at finding a resolution to the deepening political standoff between Fubara and his predecessor-turned-adversary, Wike — a feud that has destabilised governance in Rivers State and led to the suspension of Fubara and several top officials.
Multiple insiders revealed that Fubara did not hold back in his desperate plea. "He was brought to Wike’s house by Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Governor Olusegun Osoba. The moment he entered, he went flat on the ground, held Wike’s legs and repeatedly called him 'My Oga,'" one source recounted. “It was a complete show of submission.”
The reconciliation meeting, which reportedly stretched into the early hours of Saturday, April 19, was said to be tense yet revealing. Though full details remain tightly guarded, sources indicated that Wike gave Fubara stern conditions, including mobilising his supporters — particularly Rivers elders — to openly admit that the rift with Wike was misguided and regrettable.
When contacted, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to disclose the substance of their discussions. Fubara’s spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, refused to comment entirely and referred inquiries to the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, who also remained unreachable.
The dramatic reconciliation bid marks a stunning twist in a political rivalry that erupted barely six months after Fubara assumed office with Wike’s backing. Their falling out split the Rivers State House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers pledging allegiance to Wike while only three remained loyal to Fubara. Fubara attempted to delegitimise the Wike-aligned lawmakers, but the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025 ruling overturned his actions, reinstating the defectors and halting federal allocations to the state.
The embattled governor’s troubles deepened on March 14 when the Assembly served him and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, with a formal notice of alleged misconduct, citing abuse of office, illegal appointments, obstruction of legislative functions, and financial mismanagement.
As the political drama continues to unfold, Fubara’s desperate bid for forgiveness — one that included physical prostration and vocal submission — may mark the beginning of a new power realignment in Rivers State. However, Nigerians remain divided over the implications, especially amid the ongoing state of emergency and the widespread suspension of elected officials.
