Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, has declared that Badagry has been the greatest beneficiary of her constituency interventions and developmental projects in the last three years, highlighting the ongoing Youth Development Centre in Ibereko as the flagship project of her tenure.
Adebule made the disclosure on Tuesday, June 17, 2026, while addressing members of her campaign team during a meeting where she presented a comprehensive account of her stewardship since assuming office as senator.
Giving a breakdown of projects executed across the district, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State said her interventions have cut across all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos West. According to her, the projects span education, youth empowerment, healthcare, water supply, sports development, social welfare, skills acquisition and employment opportunities.
She, however, singled out the massive Youth Development Centre under construction in the Ibereko area of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Badagry, as her most ambitious and impactful project.
Describing the facility as a multi-purpose development hub, Adebule explained that the centre will house a mini stadium, ICT centre, Computer-Based Test centre, civic centre, boarding facilities and skills acquisition centre, among other youth-focused amenities.
According to the senator, although the project is situated in Badagry, its benefits will extend beyond the division to all residents of Lagos West Senatorial District.
"This is more than a constituency project. It is a regional development initiative that will serve young people from across Lagos West. The facilities embedded in the centre are designed to create opportunities for education, sports, innovation, entrepreneurship and human capital development," she said.
Adebule also used the occasion to address widespread misconceptions surrounding constituency projects, stressing that lawmakers do not receive funds directly for such projects.
She explained that funds earmarked for constituency projects are domiciled with relevant ministries, departments and agencies of government, which are solely responsible for awarding contracts and supervising project execution.
"There is a wrong impression among many Nigerians that senators and members of the House of Representatives receive money directly for constituency projects. That is not true. The funds are managed by government ministries and agencies, which handle procurement, payments and project implementation," she clarified.
The senator further noted that delays in funding some projects already captured in the 2024 and 2025 federal budgets have slowed implementation in certain areas. She expressed optimism that once the projects are funded, more developmental initiatives would be delivered across Lagos West.
On national issues, Adebule commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as courageous and far-reaching economic reforms aimed at rescuing the country from economic collapse.
According to her, the administration inherited a struggling economy in 2023 and had no choice but to implement difficult but necessary policies, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms.
She argued that the president's decision to declare that "subsidy is gone" was one of the boldest economic decisions in Nigeria's history, insisting that the country would have faced deeper economic challenges without such intervention.
"The president inherited an economy that was already in a critical state. The reforms may have come with temporary difficulties, but they have laid the foundation for economic recovery and long-term stability. Nigerians should continue to support the administration as it works to reposition the nation," she stated.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Adebule charged members of her campaign team to begin grassroots mobilisation and house-to-house campaigns for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, herself and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress.
She also appealed for unity within the party following recent APC primary elections in Lagos State, urging aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to embrace party supremacy and remain committed to the collective success of the party.
Adebule assured those who were unsuccessful during the primaries that the party values their contributions and would continue to create opportunities for dedicated members.
She emphasized that unity, loyalty and collective effort would be crucial to securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.
The senator's presentation offered a detailed reflection of her three years in office, while reinforcing her commitment to expanding developmental projects and strengthening grassroots support across Lagos West Senatorial District.
