Kumayon Drives NIN Registration to Olorunda Communities, Prioritises Students as New Centres Get Approval

Residents of Olorunda Local Council Development Area are finally getting relief from the long standing stress of National Identification Number registration, following a bold grassroots intervention by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon.

In a move aimed at bringing essential services closer to the people, Hon. Kumayon has engaged licensed private NIN operators and deployed them to towns and villages across the council, giving special priority to students preparing for WAEC and JAMB examinations.

For months, overcrowded government centres in Badagry and the non functional NIN annex in Olorunda LCDA had forced residents to endure endless queues and expensive charges from private operators. The situation left many students unable to complete their examination registrations on time.

With mobile registration machines now rotating across communities, the story is changing. Residents are currently being registered and having errors on their old NIN records corrected free of charge. The ongoing exercise in Ibereko Town, Age Mowo follows earlier visits to Atiplome and Mowo, and is expected to cover all five wards in the council.

The operators are not only capturing new applicants but are also correcting mistakes such as wrong names, dates of birth and other personal details that previously attracted heavy fees.

Meanwhile, in a strategic push for lasting solutions, Hon. Kumayon joined the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, and the Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, in a high level meeting with officials of the National Identification Management Commission at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat.

The engagement yielded immediate results, as NIMC approved three additional NIN registration centres to serve Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA and Badagry West LCDA. The councils will provide equipment, logistics and support staff, while also re equipping existing centres to ensure smooth and speedy operations.

Residents across the Badagry axis have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that restores access, dignity and opportunity, especially for students whose education depends on timely NIN registration.

With both mobile registration drives and permanent centres now in motion, the NIN registration crisis in Olorunda and neighbouring councils appears firmly on the path to resolution.
