Police operatives have uncovered a suspected child trafficking ring in Badagry, Lagos State, following a raid on an orphanage allegedly used as a hideout for abducted children. The operation led to the rescue of six children and the arrest of five suspects, including the proprietor of the facility, report by Zagazola Makama detailed.
Zagazola Makama, according to CityMood Badagry is security analyst and journalist on Zagazola.org, a platform known for tracking security-related issues across the country.
According to security sources, the arrests were linked to investigations surrounding the abduction of a six-year-old boy, Samuel Honesty, who was reportedly kidnapped from the Idanyin area of Ogun State on November 28, 2025. The case took a dramatic turn when the child was later abandoned in front of the Gowon Estate Police Station in Lagos on January 21, 2026, at about 6pm.
The incident triggered renewed police action, with operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensifying investigations that eventually led them to Badagry. On January 23, 2026, at about 5pm, officers arrested five suspects during a coordinated operation in the area.
During the raid, the police also stormed a facility identified as Joyful Kids Orphanage Home, where six other children were rescued. The orphanage was allegedly being used to house abducted children pending their sale or relocation.
The orphanage proprietor, identified as 36-year-old Joy Chidozie, was taken into custody. She reportedly told investigators that she bought the abducted six-year-old boy from a woman identified as Bunmi for the sum of 1.5 million naira.
Police sources confirmed that the rescued children have been placed under protective custody, while investigations continue to track down other suspected members of the syndicate and establish the full extent of the alleged child-stealing operation.
