Political Storm in Badagry West: Former Sole Admin Nuatin Genesis Calls for Unity, Dialogue and Urgent Peaceful Resolution

A fresh call for unity and sincere dialogue has been made to political leaders and stakeholders in Badagry West Local Council Development Area following the deepening division within the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the council.

Hon Nuatin Genesis Williams, the former Sole Administrator of Badagry West LCDA in a chat with Badagry Today questioned the persistent inability of key actors in the council to work together in the collective interest of development.

In his reflection Hon Williams lamented what he described as endless bickering animosities blackmail and the growing habit of seeking external interventions instead of resolving disputes internally. According to him politics thrives on communication negotiation and compromise not endless warfare that stalls progress.

He warned that no amount of intervention by anti graft agencies or outside forces can fix the challenges confronting Badagry West if leaders themselves are unwilling to sit together engage honestly and commit to putting the future of the council above personal ambitions and rivalries.

A deeper look at the ongoing crisis he noted reveals a struggle driven largely by selfish interests power play and the control of council resources rather than genuine concern for the people. In a lighter but pointed remark he urged leaders to learn to manage disagreements wisely advising them to take some cook some and preserve the rest for tomorrow.

His message however carried a clear sense of urgency. He appealed directly to political leaders in the council to find solutions immediately stressing that the continued division poses a serious threat to unity stability and development in Badagry West.

The former administrator’s intervention comes against the backdrop of a sharp division within the APC in Badagry West LCDA following the last local government elections. The emergence of Hon Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren RIKAY from Ward A as chairman has remained a major source of discontent among some stakeholders particularly from Ward E who argue that the ward has never produced an elected chairman since the creation of the council.

While the leadership crisis festers reports have also emerged of a petition allegedly written by some youths against the immediate past chairman Hon Gbenu Henugbe accusing him of financial misappropriation and non performance over an eight year period. The petition reportedly submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC in May 2025 further alleged that the apex leader of the APC in Badagry West benefited from the funds in question.

These allegations have intensified tensions widened fault lines and deepened mistrust among party leaders groups and supporters across the council.

Against this tense political climate Hon Williams’ call is being viewed by many as a timely appeal for restraint reconciliation and refocus. Observers believe that without deliberate efforts to heal internal wounds and rebuild trust Badagry West risks losing valuable time and opportunities for growth and development.

As the former administrator rightly noted the future of the council may well depend on the willingness of its leaders to look beyond grudges sit at the same table and choose unity over division for the sake of the people they serve.
