As excitement builds ahead of the kickoff tomorrow, Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, says the Ojelabi Football Tournament will open the door to fresh football talents across the Badagry Division.
Sule spoke at a briefing organised by the Local Organising Committee in Lagos, expressing confidence that the competition, sponsored by Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, will shine the spotlight on young players waiting for an opportunity to be seen.
He said he had no doubt that the tournament would produce new stars capable of making Badagry proud. According to him, the idea of the competition gladdened his heart from the moment it was proposed, because of the impact it would have on young people who make up a huge part of the population.
Sule noted that regular jobs in government and private firms can no longer absorb the growing number of youths, which makes platforms like this essential in helping them channel their energy, build skills and gain needed exposure.
He added that the tournament would give aspiring players a chance to show what they can do and possibly rise to greater heights through the visibility the competition offers.
Delivering the message of the APC chairman, his media aide, Mrs Bola Akingbehin, called on all teams and supporters to uphold peace, unity and fair play throughout the games.
Chairman of the LOC, Deji Williams, confirmed that more than seventy-four teams from across the Badagry Division had registered and are ready to compete as the tournament kicks off.
