The fourth day of the 100 Days in Office activities of the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon Dr Babatunde Hunpe, was fully dedicated to strengthening healthcare delivery across the community. Residents turned out in large numbers at the council secretariat as the administration rolled out the Jigi Bola Eyeglasses Programme alongside a comprehensive Free Health Mission.
More than 2,000 people, including nursing mothers, children, youths, and elderly residents, benefitted from the outreach, which was supported by over 40 medical professionals from different fields. The programme offered free eye screening, medical consultations, and the distribution of high-quality eyeglasses to elderly citizens under the renowned Jigi Bola initiative. Health workers also conducted blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, HIV testing, family planning services, and general medical examinations, while beneficiaries received free medications to ease the cost of healthcare.
Speaking at the event, Hon Hunpe stressed that good health is the foundation on which every thriving society is built. He noted that many residents suffer silently from poor eyesight and untreated ailments simply because they cannot afford proper care.
He praised the Jigi Bola programme as one of Lagos State’s most impactful people-focused initiatives and expressed pride in continuing its legacy in Badagry. According to him, the goal is to restore hope, improve vision, and enhance the quality of life for residents, particularly the elderly.
Hunpe added that the Free Health Mission reflects his administration’s commitment to taking healthcare directly to the people, ensuring that no resident is left behind in the push for a Greater Badagry Rising.
He also encouraged residents to support the government through regular tax payments, explaining that such contributions help the council build roads, upgrade schools, support vulnerable groups, and sustain essential health programmes.
The Vice Chairman, Hon Akeem Adeyemi, who delivered the closing remarks, thanked all participants, health workers, and volunteers for their dedication. He reaffirmed the administration’s promise to keep expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare for the people of Badagry.
