Youths Urge Gov. Sanwo-Olu to Build Stadium in Badagry as Hon. Bonu Rewards Football Champions

Youths in Badagry have called on the Lagos State Government to construct a standard stadium in the area to boost grassroots sports and nurture local talents.

The appeal was made on Saturday, October 18, 2025, during the Prize Presentation Ceremony of the Bonu Constituency Cup (BCC), held at the constituency office of Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, who represents Badagry Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The annual tournament, organized and sponsored by Hon. Bonu, was designed to promote youth engagement, unity, and community development through sports.

At the grand finale, Badagry Ward A emerged champions, receiving a cash prize of ₦500,000, while Badagry West Ward E and Badagry Ward D finished second and third with ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.

Speaking at the event, the captain of Ward D praised Hon. Bonu for his commitment to youth empowerment but lamented the lack of sporting infrastructure in the area.

“We’re very grateful to Hon. Bonu Solomon for this wonderful initiative that has brought excitement and hope to young people in Badagry,” he said. “However, we appeal to Governor Sanwo-Olu to help us with a proper stadium. We have many gifted players here, but the lack of facilities has limited our opportunities.”

He added that athletes in other parts of Lagos enjoy better exposure and career growth due to access to standard sports facilities.

Also speaking, Coach Shadrach of Badagry West Ward E described the tournament as a major morale booster for young people and a tool for promoting peace and unity.

“This competition has inspired many youths. We hope more leaders will invest in sports because it keeps young people focused and fosters togetherness,” he said.

The Bonu Constituency Cup has earned praise for reviving interest in community football and creating a platform for the discovery of emerging talents. Organizers say subsequent editions will continue to build on this success to further promote sports and youth inclusion in Badagry.
