The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has appealed to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to prioritize the completion of several abandoned infrastructural projects in the ancient town of Badagry.
Hunpe made the appeal on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, during the commissioning of the Lagos Homes Ajara Scheme by Governor Sanwo-Olu. The event, held in Ajara, was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents who came to witness the unveiling of the new housing project.
In his address, the Badagry Council Chairman commended the governor for his continued investment in the development of Badagry, describing the housing project as “a magnificent symbol of inclusive growth, equitable development, and sustainable expansion” across Lagos State.
Hunpe noted that the newly commissioned Lagos Homes Ajara Scheme was not just a residential estate but a realization of a long-term vision first conceived by former Lagos State Governor and now President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This project stands as a testament to two generations of visionary leadership,” Hunpe said. “What we are witnessing today is the continuation of a noble dream nurtured to reality by a governor who walks his talk.”
To further complement the project, Hunpe announced plans by the local government to develop a new recreational and communal space called the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Progressive Park. The park, he explained, will be built on the open space in front of the new estate and will serve as a leisure hub for residents while symbolizing the enduring legacy of visionary governance in Lagos State.
The council boss also expressed gratitude to the Sanwo-Olu administration for the ongoing electrification project in Badagry West LCDA, which, according to him, has already begun transforming lives in several underserved communities.
However, Hunpe appealed to the governor to direct attention to some uncompleted and abandoned projects that have hindered the area’s infrastructural development. These include the Lagos State VIP Chalet in Badagry, the Yafin Road Project, the Agbovipe–Agadangba–Erekiti Road, the second phase of Hospital–Topo–Idale Road, the Aradagun–Mowo Road, and the Owode–Apa Road.
He also called for the accelerated realization of the long-awaited Badagry Deep Sea Port, which he described as a potential game-changer for economic growth, tourism, and trade within the region.
“The completion of these projects will consolidate your legacy as the governor who transformed Badagry into a world-class destination for tourism, commerce, and culture,” Hunpe said.
The local government chairman further sought the governor’s approval for the cleaning and reorganization of the reclaimed waterfront at the Badagry Marina. He said the initiative aims to complement the state government’s Door of Return project and to prepare for the upcoming 2026 Diaspora Festival and Badagry Heritage Festival.
Reaffirming the loyalty of the people of the Badagry Federation, comprising Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry West LCDA, Hunpe assured the governor of their continuous support for his administration’s Greater Lagos Rising agenda.
“Your Excellency, the people of Badagry are grateful for your love, your leadership, and your legacy,” he concluded. “We stand firmly with you as you continue to make Lagos a beacon of progress for all.”
