Ijebu-Ode was thrown into shock on Thursday after armed men stormed the residence of former Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Emilola Gazal, carting away cash, valuables, and his car before forcing him to empty his bank accounts.
According to Punch, Gazal, who also publishes The Roots Magazine, recounted the terrifying incident in a phone interview, saying the three-man gang broke into his Ijebu-Ode GRA home around 2 a.m.
“They collected all the cash I had with me and then ordered me to open my banking apps. They transferred everything to an account they gave me and deliberately left only ₦5,000 behind. They also took my wife’s trinkets and my ash-coloured car, which they said they were going to drive away with,” Gazal narrated.
He added that he was on his way to report the case to the police divisions at Igbeba and Obalende in Ijebu-Ode.
The incident comes amid rising cases of violent robberies and home invasions across Ogun State, particularly in the Ijebu axis. Just recently, the Ogun State Police Command foiled several armed robbery operations, including a deadly encounter along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway where a suspect was gunned down.
Similarly, in September, police arrested a suspect linked to a burglary and armed robbery in Ayetoro, involving over ₦1.5 million worth of stolen items. The Amotekun Corps has also been engaging criminal gangs in shootouts across Ogun’s border communities.
Despite these security crackdowns, Thursday’s attack has once again highlighted the growing insecurity troubling residents in the state.
