It was a moment of transition and reflection at the General Hospital, Badagry, on Tuesday, as Dr. Oluseyi Adegoke Adesola officially assumed duty as the new Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the facility.
According statement released by the Hospital's Head of Public Affairs Unit, Mr. Reuben Hopo, the formal handover took place during a valedictory Hospital Management Committee (HMC) meeting held at the Olaniyi Oladapo Conference Room, where the outgoing Medical Director, Dr. Olatunde Bakare, presented his handover notes to his successor.
In his address, Dr. Adesola expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Bakare for his leadership and the remarkable progress recorded under his tenure. He commended the outgoing Director for the legacy he left behind, describing it as “footprints on the sands of time.”
The new Medical Director charged the hospital’s management team and staff to remain steadfast and efficient in delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Badagry and its environs. He emphasized the need for every department to uphold excellence and maintain the hospital’s growing reputation for high-standard medical care.
Dr. Adesola also challenged the Heads of Departments (HODs) to set personal examples of trust and confidence in the hospital’s services.
“If you cannot boldly tell your loved ones to come here for medical care, then something is wrong within your department,” he stated.
He further urged departmental heads to mentor their subordinates and build sustainable systems of teamwork and accountability.
“Nobody functions alone. The people working with you reflect the culture you build. A department’s strength or weakness mirrors the capacity of its leadership,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to collective growth, Dr. Adesola promised maximum support to all staff and departments, assuring them that his administration would prioritize collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
Earlier, Dr. Bakare, in his farewell remarks, thanked the hospital’s management and staff for their support throughout his five-year tenure, from October 2020 to October 2025. He noted that the hospital had made significant progress in service delivery and infrastructure, expressing fulfillment as he bowed out.
Dr. Bakare has now been redeployed to General Hospital, Lagos, as Medical Director/CEO, while Dr. Adesola, who previously headed General Hospital Epe (now transformed into the Federal Medical Centre, Epe) and later Mushin General Hospital — assumes his new role in Badagry with a pledge to consolidate and build upon existing achievements.
The event was attended by senior medical personnel, department heads, and administrative staff, who expressed optimism about a new era of leadership focused on improved healthcare delivery for residents of Badagry and neighboring communities.
