The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, has inaugurated the 2025 Local Government Election Petition Appeals Tribunal to handle appeals arising from disputes over the upcoming local government elections.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, October 7, at the Ikeja High Court Conference Room. The tribunal is chaired by Justice Yetunde Akinsaya, with Justices Kafeel Dawodu, Omotola Oguntade, Yakubu Oshoala, and Omolade Awope serving as members.
In his address, Justice Alogba urged members of the tribunal to carry out their duties with integrity, fairness, and strict adherence to the law. He noted that the tribunal’s establishment followed the earlier inauguration of the Local Government Election Tribunal Panels in July.
He stressed that the credibility of the tribunal would depend on the members’ professionalism and impartiality. “You must be guided by the principles of law and evidence at all times. Justice must be dispensed without fear or favour,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Administrative Judge of the Lagos Division, Justice Olutoyin Ipaye, commended the calibre of the appointees, describing them as seasoned judges with vast experience. She expressed confidence in their ability to discharge their responsibilities diligently and wished them success in their assignment.
The tribunal is expected to commence its sittings immediately, with proceedings to be held at the Rosaline Omotosho Court in Ikeja, Lagos.
The formation of the tribunal underscores the Lagos State Judiciary’s commitment to ensuring transparent, fair, and timely resolution of electoral disputes ahead of the 2025 local government elections.
