Lagos: Two-Storey Building Collapse Leaves One Injured, Five Saved

A two-storey building came crashing down on Wednesday evening at Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos, leaving one man injured and five others pulled out alive.

The collapse, which happened around 6 p.m., trapped a 44-year-old resident of Olabode Street. He was later rescued with fractures and bruises before being rushed by Lagos State Ambulance Service officials to LASUTH’s Surgical Emergency unit, where doctors confirmed he was stable.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, said the five others rescued from the rubble were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment. “LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene quickly and were able to rescue the trapped man as well as five others,” he explained, adding that the injured victim arrived at the hospital in stable condition.

Videos on social media showed LASEMA operatives working at the site to bring victims to safety. The cause of the collapse has not yet been established.

This latest incident adds to a worrying trend of building failures in Lagos. Back in May, three members of a family lost their lives when an uncompleted two-storey building collapsed in Ikorodu. In July, another three-storey building came down at Adeniji-Adele, Isale Eko, with four people narrowly escaping death.
