Lagos Education Boss Charges Principals on Discipline, Professionalism Ahead of New Term

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District III, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, has urged school principals to embrace discipline, professionalism, and renewed commitment as schools prepare to resume for the new academic session.

Speaking at a pre-resumption meeting held at St. George’s Primary School within the District Office premises, Dr. Oyetola stressed the need for collective action in addressing challenges and improving standards across schools.

In her remarks, she expressed gratitude to staff and school heads for their cooperation over the years, noting that their support has made her leadership journey smoother.

Dr. Oyetola emphasized the importance of personal appearance and workplace culture, reminding principals that “how you present yourself is how you will be addressed.” She urged them to maintain neat offices, as the principal’s office often creates the first impression for visitors, including NGOs and private partners.

She also advised principals to prioritize their health by seeking medical attention when necessary, while charging them to take extracurricular activities more seriously. She expressed concern over the district’s low participation in state competitions and directed principals to fully support teachers in preparing students to represent the district.

On school readiness, the TG/PS stressed the need for clean, well-maintained environments that promote effective learning.

The session ended with principals pledging renewed dedication to raising the bar in Education District III, in line with Lagos State’s vision of improved learning outcomes and a greater Lagos.
