Former Minister of Information and prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that Nigerians are now clamouring for the return of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2027.
Speaking on Saturday in Minna, Niger State, shortly after the PDP state congress where new executives were elected, Gana confirmed that Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the PDP platform.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another president ruled for eight years and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear,” Gana said.
According to him, citizens who once fell for political deception have now realised their mistake. “Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I can confirm that he will contest the 2027 presidential election as PDP’s candidate, and you will vote for him to return as president again,” he added.
The PDP stalwart emphasised that the party remains a true grassroots movement with a history of people-oriented programmes. He dismissed insinuations about crises within the party, recalling that the founding fathers had always resolved internal issues through dialogue and consultation.
Gana also criticised the current federal government, accusing it of discouraging foreign investors. “This government has a number of evil gatekeepers keeping away investors. That’s their major problem. Nigeria is the best place to grow your money,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PDP state congress produced new executives led by Alhaji Aliyu Halidu, who emerged as state chairman after securing 1,289 votes to defeat Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who polled 1,269 votes.
Other winners include Alhaji Khadi Kuta, a former commissioner, who was returned unopposed as state secretary, and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu, who clinched the women leader position with 1,373 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity among party members, vowing that the PDP was ready to reclaim power in 2027. “PDP is strong at the grassroots and ready to dislodge the ruling party. Together, we will ensure the return of people-oriented governance,” he declared.
