Erik ten Hag Sacked By Bayer Leverkusen

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been dismissed by Bayer Leverkusen after just two Bundesliga matches in charge.

The 55-year-old Dutchman was only appointed in the summer, following his exit from Old Trafford in October. But Leverkusen’s poor start to the season has prompted the club to act swiftly.

“Parting ways was not an easy decision for anyone,” managing director Simon Rolfes admitted in a statement on the club’s website. “But the past few weeks have made it clear that building a successful team under the current circumstances wasn’t feasible.”

Leverkusen have picked up just one point from their opening two games, losing 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim on the opening weekend before surrendering a 2-0 and 3-1 lead in a dramatic 3-3 draw against 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Ten Hag had signed a two-year deal in May, succeeding Xabi Alonso, who guided the club to a historic league and cup double last season before leaving to take over at Real Madrid.

Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro added: “It’s painful to make such a decision so early in the season, but we felt it was necessary. Our goals remain the same, and to achieve them, we need the best possible conditions throughout the entire first team.”
