The Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, Alhaji Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, has died at the age of 91.
According to Vanguard News his passing was confirmed on Tuesday by a Muslim leader in Owo, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ishola, who said the revered cleric died on Monday evening at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
Ishola described the late Imam as a highly respected Islamic scholar and community leader who dedicated his life to the growth of Islam in Nigeria. He added that the burial would take place on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Owo, in line with Islamic rites.
The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Ondo State chapter, has also expressed deep sorrow over the death. In a condolence message, the group’s State Missioner, Alhaji Abdulwaasii Yusuf, said Muslim youths in the state would greatly miss the Imam, whom he described as “a strong pillar of NACOMYO and one of the greatest Islamic scholars to have come from this part of the world, especially Ondo State.”
Yusuf prayed for Allah to forgive the Imam’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Until his death, Sheikh Aladesawe also served as the Secretary General of Imams and Alfas in the South West, as well as Edo and Delta States.
He was widely admired for his contributions to the spread of Islam, peace-building efforts, and community development across Ondo State and beyond. His death has been described as a huge loss to the Muslim community and the state at large.
