... Seeks more women in governance, advocates gender balance in appointments

The First Lady of Badagry Local Government, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Elizabeth Hunpe, has called on women across Lagos State to rise and take bolder steps in politics.
She made the appeal over the weekend during an interactive session held at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat with female councillors, APC women leaders, councillors’ wives, and former female public office holders.
The session began with a minute of silence in honour of the late Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, and also reflected on the recent shocking deaths of three other female councillors in Lagos State, who passed away just weeks after their inauguration.
Reinforcing her advocacy for gender balance in governance, Mrs. Hunpe emphasized the importance of appointing more women into key political offices such as supervisors, special advisers, and other decision-making positions. She noted that women not only support their spouses in leadership but also play critical roles in shaping policies and driving sustainable development.
She urged women to rise above stereotypes, remain consistent, and demonstrate competence through visionary service. Drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Mrs. Hunpe highlighted her as a symbol of resilience and influence in politics.
“Politics rewards courage and consistency. Women must not only support but also lead. We must show that competence and integrity outweigh stereotypes,” she said.
Mrs. Hunpe concluded by charging women in Badagry and beyond to stay proactive, united, and committed to service, stressing that their active involvement in politics strengthens families, empowers communities, and improves governance at all levels.
