Social critic, Scott Iguma, has called out local government chairmen and state commissioners in Lagos, accusing them of abandoning their real duties to the people and instead turning social media into their main achievement.
In a video he posted on Instagram, Iguma blasted LGA chairmen for filling their pages with birthday wishes and congratulatory messages rather than showing evidence of developmental projects in their communities. He said Lagosians deserve to see how funds are being put to work, not just endless greetings.
He didn’t stop there. Iguma also aimed at commissioners in the state, accusing them of being more interested in sharing pictures of meetings, conferences, and official outings than in updating the public on meaningful work done in their sectors.
To back his claims, he shared a screen recording of the Instagram page of the Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, as well as that of the Lagos State Commissioner for Health. According to him, the commissioner’s page is filled with photos from events and meetings but carries no updates about hospitals or health centers being built or renovated for the benefit of residents.
His video has since triggered conversations online, with many Lagosians agreeing that most local officials appear more focused on PR than on the real business of governance. Others, however, argued that some projects are being carried out but poorly communicated.
The criticism has reignited questions about accountability and transparency in Lagos’ local governance, with residents demanding that public officials show more proof of work beyond Instagram updates.
