WAEC Admits Error in 2025 WASSCE Results, Withdraws Release

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues linked to a new result processing method.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that the glitch was traced to a recently introduced paper serialization system designed to combat examination malpractice.

“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation already deployed by a national examination body. The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics. However, an internal post-result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results,” the statement read.

As a result, access to the 2025 WASSCE results on the Council’s result checker portal has been temporarily disabled to allow for urgent corrections. WAEC emphasized that the decision was taken in line with its core values of fairness, professionalism, and adherence to best assessment practices.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public,” the statement added. “We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four hours.”

Candidates who had already accessed their results are advised to recheck them after the 24-hour window elapses.

Reaffirming its commitment to excellence and integrity, the Council urged the public to maintain confidence in its processes, assuring stakeholders of its dedication to delivering credible assessments for the benefit of Nigerian students.
