Young Badagrian, Awumenu Sewanu Fisher, Declares Bid for LASU Law Students' Society Presidency

A promising young leader from Badagry, Awumenu Sewanu Oluwaferanmi Fisher, has officially declared his intention to run for President of the Law Students’ Society at Lagos State University (LASU), promising to usher in a new era of purpose-driven leadership within the Faculty of Law.

In a heartfelt and eloquent speech, Fisher anchored his ambition on the timeless words of Robert K. Greenleaf: "The servant-leader is servant first." Quoting this, he emphasized his philosophy of leadership—one rooted in service before ambition.

Fisher, currently a 300-level law student, is no stranger to leadership. Over the years, he has amassed significant experience in student governance and campus organizing. He served as the General Secretary of the National Association of Badagry West Students (NABWES) from 2021 to 2023, where he coordinated student-focused initiatives. In 2022, he also served as Secretary of the NABADS-LASU Day Committee.

Demonstrating his commitment to democratic values and transparent governance, Fisher played key roles in student electoral processes. He was a member of the Independent Electoral Committee that midwifed the current LASUSU administration in 2023 and is currently the Chairman of the NABWES Electoral Committee. His service also extends to the LASULAW Students’ Representative Council, where he represents the 300-level constituency.

According to Fisher, these cumulative experiences have not only shaped his leadership style but also fueled his resolve to serve his peers at a higher level. He said, “These roles have sharpened my leadership, deepened my love for service, and most importantly, prepared me for this moment.”

Fisher’s campaign is built on a five-point agenda aimed at what he calls “Rebranding and Repositioning LASULAWS.” His vision touches on key areas including academic excellence, student welfare, career development, digital transformation, and social impact.

“This is not leadership for show,” he said. “This is leadership beyond student unionism. It is leadership with results. Leadership that empowers, connects, and uplifts.”

As he formally throws his hat into the ring to become the 40th President of the LASU Law Students' Society, Fisher is calling on fellow students to rally behind him—not just with votes, but with support and belief in a shared vision for a better faculty.

“I am ready to serve you all with diligence, humility, and transparency,” he declared. “Let’s build our dear Faculty together. Let’s lead right.”

His campaign slogan, #WithFisherLawLeadsRight, is already gaining traction among students who see in him a fresh voice of reason, experience, and service.

With the election season heating up, all eyes are now on the LASU Law Faculty as students prepare to decide who will lead them into the future.
