Iyabo Ojo Breaks Silence on Office Gutted by Fire: Cites Threat to Life, Speaks on Police Invitation, Mohbad Case

Popular Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Iyabo Ojo, has publicly addressed her recent police invitation, ongoing threats to her life, and her advocacy for justice in the controversial death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In a detailed press statement released on Wednesday, Iyabo clarified that her involvement in the Mohbad case stemmed solely from a call for transparency and justice—not from a desire to accuse or target anyone.

“It is no longer news that I was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force over a live video I recorded a few years ago,” she said. “In that video, I merely urged certain individuals to present themselves for investigation to clear their names in the interest of justice for Mohbad.”

Through her NGO, Pinkies Foundation, Iyabo said she had formally petitioned several top government and police officials—including the Lagos State Governor, Attorney General, and the Commissioner of Police—seeking a thorough investigation and a coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death.

“These steps clearly show that I never pointed fingers at anyone,” she explained. “Otherwise, why would I go through the legal and investigative channels?”

She recalled several meetings with Lagos State authorities, including former Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, and members of the State House of Assembly, all aimed at pushing for a full and independent inquiry into the matter.

However, Iyabo disclosed that her activism has come at a steep personal cost. She revealed she has faced continuous threats to her life and business, including a chilling letter she received just days before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania.

“The letter said I would go through hell in the next three months,” she stated. “Now, I’m seeing coffins with my name on them and videos openly threatening me and my children. My family and livelihood are under serious threat.”

Iyabo believes her political views, particularly during the last general elections, may have made her a target. “I’ve faced intimidation, attacks, and insults simply for expressing my opinions. But those were my personal beliefs. I never expected them to lead to this kind of backlash.”

While she remains under police scrutiny and open to future invitations or court proceedings, Iyabo stressed that she had never tried to dictate the direction of investigations, nor accused anyone directly. “I reacted emotionally to what I saw online. But I’ve always pursued justice the right way, using my platform and funding everything personally through my foundation.”

The actress also confirmed that her office was recently gutted by fire, a loss she is still grappling with emotionally. “It’s only humane to give me some space to heal and take care of my health,” she appealed.

Despite the turmoil, Iyabo said she finds strength in her faith. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God delivers them from all,” she quoted. “I believe God will give me victory.”

She ended her statement by thanking the police, her supporters, and everyone who has stood by her during these difficult times.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has shown me love, regardless of tribe, religion, or opinion. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I remain hopeful and strong.”
