Says “Brilliant” PDP Candidate Deserves Better Than His Party

BLG Polls: Outgoing HoS Woos PDP Chairmanship Candidate, Medemaku, After Election Loss to Hunpe

In the wake of the recently concluded local government elections in Badagry, a political drama has unfolded, drawing attention across party lines. The outgoing Chief of Service of Badagry Local Government, Dr. Sewedo Olalekan Samuel, has extended a bold invitation to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate, Barrister Abayomi Medemaku Noah, urging him to abandon the PDP and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Sewedo’s unexpected offer came shortly after Medemaku, popularly known as “TheMan,” posted a sarcastic congratulatory message on Facebook to the declared winner, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe of the APC, who secured a landslide victory with 27,443 votes, leaving the PDP trailing with 1,814.

Medemaku’s post, which many described as witty yet cutting, took aim at the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), describing the agency as “the electoral arm of the APC” and alleging widespread irregularities during the poll. While appearing to concede defeat, the PDP candidate left no doubt about his dissatisfaction with the process, attracting attention from political observers and stakeholders.

In response, Dr. Sewedo, who served under the outgoing chairman Hon. Segun Onilude, took to social media to share glowing praise for Medemaku’s intellect, capacity, and dedication to the development of Badagry. He described the PDP candidate as “a brilliant and fantastic young man” who deserves to thrive in a more enabling political environment.

“I have sat with him to discuss the development of Badagry on several occasions,” Dr. Sewedo wrote. “Unfortunately, such a beautiful flower cannot flourish amidst choking weeds like the PDP.”

He went further to appeal to the APC leadership at both the state and national levels to offer an olive branch not only to Medemaku but to other promising young figures like Samuel Anuoluwapo, Senapon Medemaku, and Hon. Ahisu Abole.

His post concluded with a show of confidence in the APC’s elected chairman, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, expressing hope that the new administration will run “an all-inclusive government for the betterment of Badagry.”

The development has since stirred conversations both online and offline, with many interpreting the move as a strategic political courtship by the APC, aimed at strengthening its base while poaching young talents from the opposition.

While Barrister Medemaku is yet to publicly respond to the invitation, political watchers are keen to see whether “TheMan” will stick with his party or yield to growing calls to cross over — a move that could significantly reshape the political landscape in Badagry.
