BLG Chairmanship: PDP’s Candidate Sends Sarcastic Congratulations to APC’s Hunpe

In a rather dramatic twist to the aftermath of the just-concluded local government elections in Badagry, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate, Barrister Abayomi Medemaku, has issued a satirical congratulatory message to his opponent, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared winner by a wide margin.

In a Facebook post that has since garnered attention, Medemaku appeared to congratulate the APC candidate while sharply criticizing the electoral process and alleging massive irregularities in the conduct of the polls by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), which he referred to as “the Electoral Arm of APC.”

According to the official results declared by LASIEC, APC polled 27,443 votes, while PDP came a distant second with 1,814 votes. Other parties — ZLP, LP, APP, and AP — shared the remainder.

However, Medemaku, clearly unimpressed by the outcome, wrote:

“Congratulations to the PDP family for an excellent outing. I am sincerely grateful for your support and courage in the face of rigging, intimidation, and threat.

LASIEC, which is the Electoral Arm of APC, has announced the following final results for Badagry Local Government...

Looking at the result alone, you will see hyper-rigging and inflation of results by the APC foot soldiers in Badagry. I am sure that even their bosses in Lagos will be shocked as to where they got these figures.”

He questioned the credibility of the results, especially when compared to the official figures from the 2023 governorship elections.

“The total result for the Governorship Election in 2023 in Badagry Federation was not up to 30,000 votes. But in a dramatic turn for a local government election — the one with the lowest turnout in Lagos State history — the APC and indeed LASIEC have manufactured over 30,000 votes.

If you add Olorunda LCDA and Badagry West, the total votes for Badagry Federation might exceed 60,000. Is the God of APC not wonderful?” he added sarcastically.

Medemaku didn’t spare LASIEC, mocking the agency’s integrity and suggesting that the inflated results were “orchestrated to please the oga at the top.”

In a biting finale, the PDP candidate offered a tongue-in-cheek congratulation to his rival:

“On this note, I congratulate Hon. BABATUNDE HUNPE for his selection — I meant election,” he quipped.

Despite the setback, Medemaku hinted at a legal challenge, saying:

“It is not yet Uhuru, as the battle has now fully shifted to the court.”

He concluded by saluting his campaign team and PDP supporters across Badagry, vowing to continue the fight for electoral justice.

The local government election in Lagos State, particularly in Badagry, has drawn criticism for low voter turnout and widespread concerns over transparency, with the APC dominating results across the 57 councils.

As post-election dust settles, all eyes are now on the courts — and perhaps, on the next satirical post from Barrister Abayomi Medemaku.
