Six former chairmanship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in a rare and powerful display of political unity have formally declared their full support for Hon. Ajose Kumayon, who emerged as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the July 12 local government elections.
The aspirants — Hon. Olonde Sunday Jonathan, Akinyele Cornelius Olabisi, Ashade Wahab Aiyeleru, Hon. Bankole Afeez, Agemo Daniel Idowu, and Pst. Mrs. Sunny Adebola Oladipo — all stepped forward to not only accept the outcome of the party’s selection process but also to actively collapse their political structures in favour of Kumayon’s candidacy.
Speaking at the event which took place at the home town of the candidate, Mowo, Hon. Olonde Sunday Jonathan emphasized loyalty to party leadership and the need for unity within the local council.
“We all accept the decision of our leaders to present a credible candidate in Ajose Kumayon. We respect our leaders, and we have taken instructions from them. There is no room for strife in Olorunda. We are united and ready to deliver for Kumayon,” he said.
Ajose Kumayon, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed deep gratitude to his fellow aspirants and party stakeholders for their solidarity.
“What we are witnessing today is the true spirit of Olorunda — unity, maturity, and peace. People may attempt to sow discord, but today’s gathering proves we are one family with a shared goal,” he said.
Akinyele Cornelius Olabisi, one of the younger aspirants, acknowledged the legitimacy of the process, stating, “There was a clear and transparent process. Ajose emerged, and we are all rallying behind him to move Olorunda forward.”
Ashade Wahab Aiyeleru echoed similar sentiments while also reaffirming support for the broader APC agenda. “We congratulate our man, Ajose Kumayon. He is our choice, and we are solidly behind him. Nobody can threaten the success of President Tinubu in 2027 — not on our watch. Our support is total,” he declared.
Hon. Bankole Afeez noted the importance of unity post-election. “Yes, I contested too. The votes were counted before us all, and Ajose emerged. We are here to endorse him and ensure our structures align to support his victory.”
Former Leader of the House, Olorunda LCDA, and also a chairmanship aspirant, Agemo Daniel Idowu, described Kumayon’s emergence as divinely ordained. “It pleased God to choose Ajose Kumayon. We must now unite and focus on victory come July 12. Olorunda stands ready to work for President Bola Tinubu and our party’s success,” he said.
Adding a strong voice of inclusivity and encouragement, Pst. Mrs. Sunny Adebola Oladipo praised the choice of Ajose Kumayon as one that reflects divine will and political balance.
“God has ordained him for this role. He is humble, approachable, and inclusive. With him, Olorunda will reach new heights. This is a victory for us all,” she said.
The rare show of unity among former rivals has been widely hailed by party faithful and political observers as a major boost for the APC’s chances in the local government elections. It sends a strong signal that internal democracy and collective interest remain paramount in the party’s affairs in Olorunda LCDA.
