Four Soldiers Feared Dead as Drunk Driver Crashes into Jogging Troops

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday as a suspected drunk driver rammed into a group of soldiers jogging outside Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos. At least four soldiers are feared dead, while several others sustained serious injuries.

According to eyewitness accounts, a Toyota vehicle carrying three young men was speeding when it lost control and plowed into the troops participating in their routine monthly road jog.

A resident, identified as Priscilla, recounted the chaotic aftermath. She revealed that the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene but were quickly apprehended by an enraged crowd. The vehicle was vandalized, and one of the suspects was reportedly stabbed, report by Punch said.

“The soldiers were on their usual morning exercise when the car, driven at full speed, crashed into them. Four soldiers died on the spot, and many others were injured,” she said. “The boys tried to escape but were caught and beaten to a stupor. One of them was even stabbed.”

The incident has since heightened tension in the area, with residents expressing fear over possible repercussions. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development.
