Badagry Local Government has embarked on a new housing development initiative with the ground-breaking of Heritage Estate, a 14-unit residential project in Ajara Agamathen, marking what the council chairman described as a first-of-its-kind housing partnership in the history of the local government.
The Executive Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, performed the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday, November 5, 2026, announcing that the project would feature 14 two-bedroom flats and serve as a pilot scheme for a new approach to housing development in Badagry.
The initiative, being undertaken in partnership with Sall Properties Limited, is aimed at demonstrating how collaboration between government and private investors can help improve access to decent and affordable housing while creating new economic opportunities for residents.
Speaking at the event, Hunpe said his administration was determined to move beyond the traditional responsibilities of local government by embracing innovative development models capable of addressing pressing social and economic needs.
He explained that the Ajara Agamathen project would provide an opportunity to assess the viability of the council's housing model, with the prospect of expanding the initiative if the pilot scheme proves successful.
The chairman emphasised that housing remained a critical component of community development, noting that decent accommodation provides families with security, promotes homeownership and contributes to improved living standards.
He praised Sall Properties Limited for partnering with the local government and assured the company that the council would provide the necessary support to facilitate the successful execution of the project.
Hunpe also expressed optimism that the initiative would attract further private-sector investment into Badagry, stimulate economic activities and position the local government as an emerging destination for sustainable development.
He said the administration would consider expanding the scheme following the successful completion of the pilot project, adding that housing development would become an important part of its broader grassroots development agenda.
The chairman described the ground-breaking as the beginning of a bigger vision for Badagry, where access to decent housing, private investment and inclusive development would receive greater attention.
The ceremony attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, government officials and residents, particularly from Ajara Agamathen and surrounding communities.
With the commencement of Heritage Estate, Badagry Local Government is seeking to establish a new development model that places housing alongside infrastructure and other essential grassroots projects.
