The flood control and canal clearance exercise of the Olorunda Local Council Development Area has been extended to Magbon Community as part of ongoing efforts to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding across the council area.

The intervention, led by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, follows the commencement of the exercise in Esepe, making Magbon the second community to benefit from the ongoing canal opening initiative.

At Magbon, blocked waterways and drainage channels are being cleared to create a free passage for stormwater and minimise waterlogging, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The exercise is part of the administration’s preventive approach to flood management, focusing on clearing existing waterways before blocked drainage channels develop into serious flooding threats.

The intervention is also in line with the administration’s RE-SHAPE Agenda and its commitment to improving infrastructure and addressing environmental challenges affecting residents.

The council said the exercise will be extended to other communities where blocked drainage channels and poor water flow continue to pose flooding risks.
