BREAKING: Olorunda LCDA Suspends POS Trade Permit Collection Pending Review

The Olorunda Local Council Development Area has suspended the collection of trade permit payments from Point of Sale operators across the council area, pending further administrative review and stakeholder engagement.

The suspension follows concerns raised by residents and POS operators over the ₦300 weekly payment being collected by the council.

According to the council, the payment arrangement followed consultations between its management and representatives of POS operators, with the ₦300 weekly fee agreed upon as a trade permit for operators who had previously not been covered by any council trade permit payment.

However, the administration said it had taken note of concerns surrounding the collection and decided to suspend the payment in the interest of transparency, proper communication and consideration for small business operators.

The council stressed that the suspension takes immediate effect, adding that POS operators are not required to make the affected weekly payment to the council or to anyone falsely claiming to be a council staff member or revenue agent.

Olorunda LCDA said it will engage POS operators and other relevant stakeholders during the review process, after which further information will be made public.

The council urged residents and POS operators to disregard speculation and await official communication, while assuring the business community of its commitment to responsible revenue administration and transparent processes.
