Former Labour Party chairmanship candidate in Ojo Local Government, Hon Abudu Akinlola Olumayowa, has formally announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress ADC, declaring that the move marks a continuation of purpose rather than a break from his long held political ideals.
Abudu defected to the ADC yesterday along with hundreds of Labour Party members in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State and was received by the Lagos State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Mr. George Ashiru. In a press statement addressed to stakeholders, leaders, comrades, and party faithful, Olumayowa said his exit from the Labour Party was not driven by personal ambition or disappointment but by a crisis of values.
According to him, the ideals that brought him into politics were not defeated but betrayed, making it necessary for conscience to seek a new platform.
He explained that his political journey has always been about giving voice to the voiceless, restoring dignity to governance and resisting the normalization of injustice, stressing that those convictions remain alive and have now found renewed expression within the ADC.
Describing the ADC as a party of conviction and courage, Olumayowa said it is not a refuge for the weak but a rallying point for those committed to internal democracy, earned leadership and people centred governance.
He noted that the people of Ojo deserve representatives who listen and serve rather than command and impose authority.
The former LP candidate emphasized that the new political movement in Ojo is anchored on hope and belief, not anger or bitterness, adding that politics can still be decent, accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
Calling on stakeholders and supporters to stand firm, Olumayowa urged them to focus on consistency rather than comfort, saying history only remembers those who remain true to purpose.
He challenged party members to build the ADC in Ojo as a model of unity, discipline and courage, insisting that when the people move together, no gatekeeper can stand in their way.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to serve not for power but for purpose, and not for personal gain but for the progress of Ojo, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
With the declaration, Hon Abudu Akinola Olumayowa officially aligns his political structure and supporters with the ADC, signaling what many observers see as a significant shift in the political landscape of Ojo Local Government.
