Hacey, in partnership with Access Holdings PLC, has brought a much needed health intervention to Wawu Community in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in rural communities.
The initiative, tagged Better Health and Stronger Community, formed part of the organisation’s ongoing community health outreach aimed at improving the wellbeing of underserved populations across Nigeria.
The medical outreach, which took place at the Sango Community playground, kicked off around 10am and recorded an impressive turnout of residents from Wawu and neighbouring communities. Many community members trooped out to benefit from the free medical services offered by the organisers.
The exercise featured comprehensive health checks carried out by medical personnel from Hacey. Services rendered included blood pressure and sugar level tests, medical consultations, free drugs, counselling sessions and general health education.
Speaking at the event, the Project Lead for Hacey Health, Bamidele Oyewumi, explained that the outreach was part of a nationwide programme designed to reach vulnerable communities with limited access to healthcare services.
According to him, the intervention is usually carried out as a one off project in selected communities, with the aim of creating immediate impact and improving awareness about healthy living.
“We are targeting over 1,000 people in this medical outreach. So far, the response has been very encouraging as beneficiaries who have been attended to are already spreading the word to others,” he said.
He added that the programme focuses on early detection of health issues, proper counselling and the provision of basic medications to those in need.
“It is a day programme where we check blood pressure and sugar levels, counsel participants on healthy lifestyles and administer drugs to those who need them. Through this, we help improve their quality of life and encourage them to take their health seriously,” he explained.
Also speaking at the event, the Regional Manager of Access Bank PLC, Olumide Oyewole, said the initiative was part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility to give back to society.
He noted that the partnership with Hacey was driven by the desire to support vulnerable members of the community who lack access to proper healthcare services.
“We are doing this as part of our commitment to social responsibility. Many people in these communities cannot afford basic medical care, and this outreach helps bridge that gap,” he said.
Oyewole added that Access Bank and Hacey have already carried out similar interventions in more than ten communities across the country and assured that more communities would benefit from the programme in the near future.
The outreach was widely applauded by residents of Wawu, who described the initiative as timely and impactful, calling for more interventions of its kind in rural areas across Badagry and beyond.
