The political atmosphere in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been stirred by a sharp rebuttal from Mr. Posu Davies, media aide to the Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Setonji David, following allegations that his principal had earlier promised to step aside after his current term.
Davies, in a strongly worded statement released late Friday, dismissed the claims as “empty propaganda from weak minds”, insisting that Hon. Setonji David, who represents Badagry Constituency II and is reportedly eyeing a fourth term in 2027, never pledged to step down for anyone.
According to him, the story making rounds in political circles, titled “Badagry Constituency 2: The Perils of a Political Leader Without Integrity and a Clarion Call for Justice in 2027,” was nothing more than a baseless attempt to malign his boss’s reputation.
“Setonji David never promised in any meeting to step down for anyone come 2027,” Davies declared. “Those spreading this falsehood are only struggling to be relevant. If they can provide evidence of such a promise, I’ll personally tell my boss to back out of the race.”
The spokesperson, known for his fiery political commentaries, described the allegation as “a poorly scripted fiction”, lacking in substance and credibility. He argued that the supposed “propagandists” could not even provide basic details like the venue of the alleged meeting or the names of leaders said to have been in attendance.
“Even a primary school pupil would see through the emptiness of that write-up,” Davies quipped. “If such a meeting ever held, where was it? Who were the attendees? Where are the pictures? Nothing. It’s just a figment of imagination.”
He further stated that propaganda is often used in politics to create false impressions about political figures, but maintained that this particular attempt was “clumsy and unintelligent.”
“In politics, propaganda is a tool,” he said. “But when you want to sell lies, at least make them believable. You can’t come up with empty tales and expect people to take you seriously.”
Davies, who serves as spokesperson to the Deputy Chief Whip, said the smear campaign only confirms the growing political anxiety around his boss’s influence and popularity in Badagry.
“I understand politics is a game of interest, but the sky is wide enough for everyone to fly. Why try to clip another person’s wings when you can grow your own?” he asked.
He concluded by throwing down a challenge to those behind the alleged smear campaign:
“Bring the evidence. Show us where, when, and to whom my boss made such a promise. Until then, stop wasting ink on fiction. We are ready for the real game in 2027.”
Hon. Engr. Setonji David, a seasoned lawmaker and one of the longest-serving members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, currently represents Badagry Constituency II. He serves as the Deputy Chief Whip and is widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures in the Badagry division.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, political activities within Olorunda LCDA are expected to intensify, with emerging camps already positioning themselves for influence and relevance in the race for legislative seats.
