Zenithorla Foundation Champions Girl-Child Empowerment in Badagry, Distributes Sanitary Pads to Mark International Day of the Girl Child

The Zenithorla Support Foundation, a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), in a powerful celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, brought the global campaign theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Bold and Healthy on the Frontlines of Crisis”, to life in Badagry, Lagos.

The foundation, known for its community-driven outreach and humanitarian initiatives, held an inspiring empowerment programme on Friday, October 10, at Topo Senior Grammar School, Badagry, transforming advocacy into meaningful impact.

Through engaging discussions, health education, and mentorship, the event sought to equip young girls with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills to overcome barriers that hinder their education and growth.

A highlight of the outreach was the distribution of free sanitary pads, a gesture that not only addressed period poverty but also underscored the importance of menstrual health in ensuring uninterrupted education for girls.

“When we empower the girl child, we ignite potential that transforms generations. We give her more than a voice, we give her the confidence to use it. When we empower the girl child, communities rise,” said Jeremiah Apariola, Founder of Zenithorla Support Foundation.

Apariola explained that the initiative reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting education, promoting gender equality, and addressing health challenges that affect young women in underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, Josephine Yakanu, the foundation’s General Secretary, encouraged students to embrace their identities with pride and reject stigmas surrounding menstruation.

“Your menstrual cycle is natural and powerful. Don’t let stigma limit your dreams. You are agents of hope and national progress,”
she told the students.

Jessica Isaac, another official of the foundation, led a practical session on menstrual hygiene, teaching proper pad usage and personal cleanliness during menstruation.

Teachers at the host school, led by Principal F. Famutimi, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and impactful intervention that fills critical gaps in adolescent health education and student welfare.

The event also included interactive sessions on leadership, self-esteem, and health awareness — empowering the girls not just to dream, but to lead.

The Zenithorla Support Foundation, operating under the slogan “Supporting People in Need,” reaffirmed its call for partnership and collaboration among individuals, organisations, and community leaders to sustain initiatives that promote equality, education, and empowerment for girls.
