The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of two drug peddlers in Badagry, Lagos State, as part of its latest nationwide clampdown on illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
According to a statement from the agency’s headquarters, the suspects, identified as Jacob Ojugbele and Amusa Oluwabukola were apprehended in separate operations within the Badagry area. Ojugbele was caught with 55 kilograms of skunk at Ashipa, while Oluwabukola was found in possession of 121.3 litres of “skuchies”, a dangerous cocktail of black currant drink, cannabis, and opioids, at Itoga.
The NDLEA said both arrests form part of a wider operation that saw several raids, seizures, and arrests across the country last week.
In Lagos, operatives stormed Proxy Night Club in Victoria Island, arresting over 100 suspects, including the club owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike. The raid, which took place around 3 a.m., followed credible intelligence about a planned “drug party.” Several cartons of Loud and laughing gas were recovered from the club premises.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, NDLEA officers intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine weighing 3.6 kilograms, hidden inside cocoa butter containers destined for London. The operation led to the arrest of a cargo agent and two others, including a travel agency CEO.
In another bust, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, was arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine disguised as herbal tea to the Philippines.
Across other states, NDLEA operatives recorded similar successes. In Kwara, officers intercepted 21,950 capsules of Tramadol hidden inside a water heater, while in Taraba, two suspects were caught transporting 450,000 pills of Tramadol and Exol-5 concealed among building materials.
Seizures were also made in Kogi, Nasarawa, and Zamfara states, where officers recovered large quantities of cannabis and ammunition linked to criminal networks.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the officers across the affected commands for their diligence and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
“These coordinated operations are part of our commitment to dismantle the illicit drug chain and make our communities safer,” Marwa said.
He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to pursue a balanced strategy that combines law enforcement with continuous advocacy in schools, workplaces, and communities nationwide.
