Troops under Operation HADIN KAI have once again shown resilience, repelling a Boko Haram ambush and neutralising 13 insurgents in Kareto, Mobbar Local Government Area of northern Borno State.
The incident happened on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while the soldiers were escorting humanitarian trucks along the Gubio–Damasak road. According to a reliable military source, who wasn’t authorised to speak to the press, the terrorists detonated two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and opened heavy fire on the convoy.
The troops quickly responded, taking defensive positions and overpowering the attackers with superior firepower. Thirteen insurgents were killed on the spot, while others fled in disarray.
During a sweep of the area, the soldiers recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a large supply of 7.62mm ammunition, camel bags, detonating cords, and several primed IEDs.
Sadly, one soldier sustained a minor injury but is reported to be stable. Four MRAP tyres were damaged, and two trucks caught fire during the clash.
Despite the attack, the military confirmed that relief materials were secured and delivered to Damasak, while ongoing operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action in the region.
