Police authorities have launched an investigation after a decomposed body was discovered inside an abandoned vehicle at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
The deceased, identified as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv man believed to have been working as a labourer at a construction site within the complex, was found on Sunday, September 7, inside a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF.
According to reports, the body was first taken to the National Assembly Clinic for confirmation before being transferred to Asokoro General Hospital. However, the hospital declined to accept the remains due to the advanced state of decomposition.
Community leaders later moved the corpse to Gbawu village, located between the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje Area Council, where it was buried to prevent health risks.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers from the National Assembly Division responded to a distress call and evacuated the remains. She added that investigations are now underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
