UBEC Boss Inspects Smart School Project in Olorunda, Visits Nigeria’s First Primary School in Badagry

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen inclusive and equitable education, particularly in riverine and historically significant communities.

Garba made this known during her inspection tour of education projects across Lagos State, which covered Ibeshe, Moba, Ojo, Olorunda, and Badagry Local Government Areas.

A major highlight of the visit was her inspection of the Smart School project at Epeme Village, Olorunda LCDA. Addressing His Royal Majesty, Oba Kososko, the Kabiyesi of Iworo, and members of the community, Garba assured that the project would be completed and delivered soon as a model of innovation and quality learning in the region.

She also paid a historic visit to St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry — established in 1843 and widely recognised as the first primary school in Nigeria. At the site, she stressed the importance of preserving the landmark institution as part of the nation’s educational heritage.

The UBEC boss was accompanied on the tour by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), the Chairmen of Badagry, Olorunda, and Badagry West LCDAs, as well as senior UBEC management staff. She noted that their presence reflected the collaborative effort between UBEC, local governments, and traditional institutions in advancing access to quality education.

“Together, we are building a stronger foundation for Nigeria’s future,” Garba stated, rounding off her visit with a message of unity and progress.
