Fuji music legend, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has issued a formal public apology over the controversial incident that took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
In a personally signed statement released on Friday, the veteran performer addressed the widespread reports surrounding the episode, clarifying that the flask he was seen carrying did not contain alcohol, as speculated in the media, but water—citing a medical condition.
“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was, to say the least, unfortunate,” K1 stated. “Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I stay constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me.”
He explained that the flask was empty during two separate security screenings and was only filled with water at the airport lounge prior to his movement towards the tarmac. K1 also denied claims that he was forcibly removed from any aircraft, insisting he never boarded the plane. He further urged the authorities to review CCTV footage to confirm his version of events.
Offering an unreserved apology, the music icon extended his regrets to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airline, and the Nigerian public at large.
“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols,” he said. “My loyalty and commitment to the peace and dignity of this country remain unwavering.”
K1’s statement comes just days after the NCAA slammed him with a six-month suspension from flying, citing alleged unruly conduct and interference with airport procedures.
The 67-year-old maestro, whose career spans over five decades, also reaffirmed his dedication to promoting Nigerian culture through Fuji music and thanked his fans for their enduring support.
As public reactions to the incident and the regulatory sanctions continue to swirl, observers await whether the authorities will consider a review of the disciplinary actions in light of the artist’s apology and explanation.
