The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has responded to recent calls by opposition parties demanding the cancellation of Saturday’s local government elections, describing the move as baseless and misleading.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said opposition parties were simply trying to discredit a peaceful and transparent election that reflected the will of the people.
Oladejo said, “The Lagos APC is concerned about the desperate attempts by some opposition parties to paint the recently concluded local government elections in a bad light. These efforts, filled with misinformation and outright falsehoods, do nothing but insult the good people of Lagos who came out to exercise their civic rights.”
He emphasized that the elections were conducted in full compliance with electoral guidelines, under the supervision of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and monitored by civil society observers and relevant stakeholders.
“The process was fair, transparent, and credible. The results clearly show that the people of Lagos continue to support the APC because of our consistent performance and commitment to service delivery,” he added.
The APC dismissed the claims of irregularities as unsubstantiated and politically motivated. According to Oladejo, the opposition appears more interested in drama than in genuinely connecting with voters.
“The people of Lagos have spoken through the ballot, and their voices must be respected. Instead of spreading falsehoods, we urge opposition parties to follow the proper legal channels if they have any complaints,” he said.
Oladejo reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to democratic principles, rule of law, and fulfilling its mandate to the people of Lagos.
“We call on all stakeholders to rise above partisan politics and join hands to move Lagos forward,” he concluded.
The APC recorded a sweeping victory in the polls, winning all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions across the state.
