A young man suspected of killing for internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys,” was caught in the act while allegedly trying to slit a woman’s throat for ritual purposes.
The shocking incident occurred in Ulakwo Etche, Rivers State, and was shared by a Facebook user, Queen Eva Doosh, who praised the swift response of the local vigilante group, “Ulakwo Etche Special Squads.”
According to her account, the suspect, identified as Iheanyi Asobirionwu, reportedly attacked one Mrs. Vicky Nweke, grabbing her by the neck and attempting to strangle her until she lost consciousness.
Believing she had died, Iheanyi allegedly left the scene to retrieve a sharp object to cut her throat — presumably to harvest body parts. However, in a twist of fate, Mrs. Nweke regained consciousness and managed to escape before he returned.
Residents quickly alerted the local vigilante team, who moved in and apprehended the suspect.
Iheanyi is said to be cooperating with the police and has begun providing information that could lead to the arrest of other individuals allegedly involved in ritual-related killings tied to internet fraud.
The police are yet to release an official statement, but the incident has sparked fresh concerns about the link between ritual killings and cybercrime in some parts of Nigeria.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nweke is said to be recovering from the traumatic ordeal.
