The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has issued a strong warning to anyone planning to disrupt Saturday’s local government elections, declaring that any act of ballot box snatching will automatically lead to a by-election in the affected area.
This was made known during a press briefing held on Thursday at the Tripple C Event Centre in Sabo, Yaba. Addressing journalists, the Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), emphasized the commission’s firm stance against electoral violence and its preparedness to conduct credible polls across all 57 local councils in Lagos State.
“There will be a by-election if a ballot box is snatched anywhere,” she said, stressing that while no one prays for such incidents, the commission is fully ready to take swift action to uphold the integrity of the process.
Justice Phillips further reassured residents that there is no threat to the scheduled July 12 election date, adding that all logistics and security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful, free, and transparent exercise.
Badagry Today reports that LASIEC has fixed Saturday, July 12, 2025, for the conduct of local government and local council development area elections across the state.
